I purchased this faux fur pompom a few months ago and put it away in one of my yarn baskets. Then I promptly forgot all about it. A couple weeks ago, I was digging through my stash for some yarn and my heart just about stopped. I saw this round, furry thing sitting there in the basket. I swear it had beady eyes and sharp teeth. Eeek, had a rodent invaded my yarn stash and made a cozy home?! I… Read more »

Creative Focus
I’m currently working on a store sample for Black Sheep Yarns. We want to showcase how Arbor knits up and so we picked out a small(ish) pattern to finish and display in store. The pattern choice that made the cut was High Pines, a textured cowl designed by Jared Flood. If you’re familiar with Jared’s work you will know that his patterns have unusual techniques and the design is often quite intricate. The end result though, is always stunning. High Pines is… Read more »
Inspired 2018
Happy new year, friends! Being inspired really challenges me to grow and develop. 2017 was definitely a year for me to step back and find balance. To assess what inspires me and weed out all the things that caused me overwhelm or stole away time from what mattered. Did I learn a lot! About myself and about how I react to or process things that influence me. While there is no magic formula, I’ve benefitted from goal setting and actually… Read more »
Road To Mexico
All the blocks for my son’s Mexico Quilt are done. Hooray! I love the combination of the golds, blues and greys and this is going to make a great quilt once it’s done. Haha, that’s the kicker… once it’s done! Given the massive size of each block in this quilt, it should be super speedy. Sadly, speed is not my speed!! So witty, right?! Wait there’s more. Ta-da! Zinger block in the mix! My son wanted me to add some weird… Read more »
Sticky Diamonds
It’s nice to ease into some sort of regular programming these days. What better way that to showcase a work in progress for WIP Wednesday. We’ve had a few scary trips to the ER with the little one being ill this September. It’s always harder when your kids are sick. First day of Grade 4 stuck in the ER :: NOT cool, superbug😡😡😡 Thankfully, she’s feeling better! . . #firstdayofschool #backtoschool #bcchildrenshospital #flusucks #rockinthebluegown A photo posted by Preeti Verghese… Read more »

Cotton + Steel. I have all the heart eyes for their stuff! The colors are vibrant and the prints are interesting and modern. There is always bound to be an special twist in their lines and I love discovering these little surprises. I bought a stack of C+S prints from Spool of Thread in Vancouver and I wanted to make a quilt that was interesting but didn’t involve a lot of cutting and piecing, especially on the bias. Jeni Baker’s, Arithmetic pattern was… Read more »
Round Two
Revisiting a craft project over and over means that the aspects of design and creation of that project really appealed to the crafter. Of course, fellow creative types will know how strong the draw is to start something new. Fondly called Startitis 😉 With the power of social media, new patterns and craft materials are being showcased every day. The magnetic force towards “ooh shiny” is sometimes irresistible (who am I kidding, this happens far too often!) But what about those projects that you had so much… Read more »
Oh Goody Goody!
Who doesn’t love a pretty bag to store notions and other crafty essentials. Bonus if it’s got a zipper and a pocket to store treats! The Goody Goody Binding Kit definitely checks all those boxes. Vanessa Goertzen of Lella Boutique designed this bag and she has a free tutorial for it on her blog. Her trick for zipper installation worked like a charm. Who knew that good old Elmer’s school glue would make installing the zipper such a breeze! So much better than using… Read more »
Hexagoning
My jar of hexagons overfloweth! Instead, this has become my current “hexie station”. I discovered a new way (new to me) to make hexagons… glue basting! So quick and easy and effective. I bought the pre-cut paper 1″ hexagons from Paper Pieces LLC and I’ve been putting them to good use with my fabric scraps. I use the Sewline glue pen for basting. Easy, no mess and the glue is blue, so I can see where (and how much) I’m… Read more »
Slow And Steady
While I don’t have the luxury of time set aside to craft each day, I am grateful for the slivers of creative time I do manage to squeeze in. A few moments to work on a knitting row. Scratch that, who am I kidding! More often than not it’s just a few stitches moved from one needle to the other! Or sometimes, chain piecing a few squares together at the sewing machine. All these moments add up and yesterday, I finally cast… Read more »
