The Fluorite socks are my February’s instalment for The Rainbow Sock Chronicles 2021. This sock pattern is by Andrea Mowry and uses a simple fade sequence that is great for using up leftover sock yarn. February’s colour for this challenge is Dark Pink or Red. I choose to incorporate a few dark pinks in my socks in keeping with the theme. The pattern is written for two lengths – calf length or boot socks and I opted for the regular… Read more »

Sometime last fall, I had a YouTube channel recommendation pop up. It was a crafty podcast by Jooles Hill under her brand Sew Sweet Violet. Jooles had an idea for 2021 through community activity and she called it, The Rainbow Sock Chronicles. Rainbows make everyone smile and her suggestion was that this could be a year where we seek out “rainbows”. I don’t think that we can deny the continued devastation on our globe as this pandemic rages on. However,… Read more »

Here we are, closing the final chapter of 2020. While a lot of this year was upside-down and inside-out, there were many things that went right. I’m choosing to remember the good things. My heart is filled with gratitude for all that has been and I look forward to all that is to come. Though this is blog post is different from the way I usually write about my finished projects, I wanted to document my creative 2020 makes. With… Read more »

I hadn’t knit socks for a while but last year, I knit 3 pairs! Two pairs for the men in my life and one for myself. I owe my daughter a pair of ankle socks but I haven’t started those yet. Today, I want to talk about the socks for the guys. I knit them both the Coffee Talk sock pattern by Tracie Millar from the Grocery Girls podcast. I liked this pattern so much that I knit it twice…. Disclaimer: The interwebs ate my post from this morning… eyeroll, so I’m having to do a re-post.  Gah! Apologies if you’ve read this stuff before and you’re looking at it again! Here’s Take 2… I finished something!  Say whaaat!! Yeah, it’s true!  The socks that were on my needles are done, done, done.  Let’s totally not dwell on the fact that I began them ermm… last December.  LOL!! These socks are for the hubster and I had him try them on after I… Read more »

A pair of Rainbow socks were one of the handmade gifts I made this Christmas.  A while ago, I bought a few skeins of Knit Picks Felici in all their cheery gorgeousness and instantly knew that my daughter would love a pair in the Rainbow colorway. She’s one of those souls who keeps up a constant stream of chatter, always flitting about on her toes doing twirls and giggling incessantly about everything.  She even giggles in her sleep and I definitely think she… Read more »

Revisiting a craft project over and over means that the aspects of design and creation of that project really appealed to the crafter. Of course, fellow creative types will know how strong the draw is to start something new. Fondly called Startitis 😉 With the power of social media, new patterns and craft materials are being showcased every day. The magnetic force towards “ooh shiny” is sometimes irresistible (who am I kidding, this happens far too often!) But what about those projects that you had so much… Read more »

After I finished my Stripe Study Shawl (still waiting on the sidelines to be blocked, ends woven in, photographed), I was hankering for a smaller project.  I’ve been hoarding this skein of sock yarn from Sweet Fiber Yarns and it was time to just knit something with it already! This spring-worthy colorway called Grapefruit had to become socks with a lace pattern.  I picked Cadence Socks, a free pattern from VeryBusyMonkey (Ravelry link).  Turned out to be the perfect pairing of colorway + pattern…. The socks I was knitting for my son’s ginormous feet are done!  Happy dance!! He said that they fit perfectly and are super soft and hinted that he would like another pair.  Um… maybe after I knit a few sweaters first 😉 I knit these socks as a part of the knit-along hosted by Kelly of CelticCastOn.  There have been so many lovely finished pairs of Business Casuals that have been popping up on the knit-along thread.  This pattern was… Read more »

Suddenly, it’s the last day of February! I don’t have much crafting progress for show-and-tell since I’m sort of stuck with the dreaded SSS (second sock syndrome).  However, I’m determined to be monogamous with this project and see it through to completion.  The socks I’m talking about is this pair of Business Casuals. If you’ve been reading this blog for sometime, you will notice that I’m not much of a sock knitter.  That being said, when Kelly announced that she… Read more »
