I will never get tired of wearing stripes. Anytime I can incorporate stripes into my handmade wardrobe, I will go for it. The Lyon Sweater by PetiteKnit looks like a standard striped sweater at first glance, but there are quite a few details that elevates this pattern. The upper torso shaping on this sweater is very interesting. I had never knit this type of shoulder construction before and it will not be my last, the fit is just perfect. I… Read more »

Happy New Year! I logged into my old blog reader and I was delighted to see that so many bloggy people I follow have been keeping up with long-form writing. It is always nice to read someone’s process on how they made something, or how a recipe turned out, or about a fun adventure they had. Such a nice change from scrolling on Instagram and glancing at pictures. Documenting life by way of journaling, or taking a million pictures, or… Read more »

I’ve got a new sweater on the needles. This one is called “Wayfarer” by Kiwi designer Libby Jonson. This one has some lovely fitting details which makes for interesting knitting in my books. Wayfarer has a cable panel running down the front and there are instructions and a design chart explaining clearly how things are supposed to be knit. Did I look (glance) at the chart? Yes. Did I read the instructions? Nope! I was progressing nicely down my sweater… Read more »

Here we are, closing the final chapter of 2020. While a lot of this year was upside-down and inside-out, there were many things that went right. I’m choosing to remember the good things. My heart is filled with gratitude for all that has been and I look forward to all that is to come. Though this is blog post is different from the way I usually write about my finished projects, I wanted to document my creative 2020 makes. With… Read more »

When the whole pandemic saga unfolded and we were suddenly forced to stay home for the collective good, my first reaction was despair. It was the beginning of spring break and we had to cancel a few planned trips. Added to that, the pressure of finding a rhythm where the four of us in our household were stuck together for weeks on end seemed so daunting. Our family soon found a flow with these changed circumstances because it’s amazing how… Read more »

Baby knits are super quick and really fun to do! After knitting a couple of Beloved bonnets, I wanted to knit a present for my cousin’s new baby. I picked an adorable sweater pattern called the Norwegian Fir Cardigan by OGE Knitwear Designs. This time I stayed away from angora and went with a more practical yarn choice — Sublime Cashmere Merino Silk. I love this yarn, it is super soft and has a lovely sheen to it. The sweater… Read more »

I have been working at my LYS, Black Sheep Yarns, for the past two years and I have loved every minute.  Last month, we became a destination store for Brooklyn Tweed. Happy dance 😀   As we unpacked boxes and boxes and boxes of gorgeous BT yarn, there was much squealing and whoops of delight!  Stocking the shelves was a mammoth task, but so worth it.  I love the story behind this all-American yarn and now I am so glad… Read more »

Do you feel it?  That nip in the air.  This can only mean PSL season, right?  I’m not a huge fan of that particular brew, but a pumpkin-spiced candle is totally my jam. With the cooler temps, the draw towards wooly things is pretty strong.  I don’t need another cardigan, but a handknit cardi?  Sign me up!  This year I took the plunge and joined the #jojifallkal2017.  For my muggle friends, that’s the annual fall knit-along hosted by knitwear designer… Read more »

My cousin posted this picture on Facebook and I had to share 🙂 Source There’s a chill in the air, the days are getting shorter and pumpkin spice lattes are back! Time for nature’s catwalk to begin with trees resplendent in their autumnal gorgeousness.  It’s not quite here yet, but soon it will be time to rake, rake, rake.  Jump into pile of freshly raked leaves.  Begin process again. Fall ❤ Leaves I noticed that my crafting is also leaf-centric.  I’ve… Read more »
