Disclaimer: The interwebs ate my post from this morning… eyeroll, so I’m having to do a re-post.  Gah! Apologies if you’ve read this stuff before and you’re looking at it again! Here’s Take 2… I finished something!  Say whaaat!! Yeah, it’s true!  The socks that were on my needles are done, done, done.  Let’s totally not dwell on the fact that I began them ermm… last December.  LOL!! These socks are for the hubster and I had him try them on after I… Read more »

A pair of Rainbow socks were one of the handmade gifts I made this Christmas.  A while ago, I bought a few skeins of Knit Picks Felici in all their cheery gorgeousness and instantly knew that my daughter would love a pair in the Rainbow colorway. She’s one of those souls who keeps up a constant stream of chatter, always flitting about on her toes doing twirls and giggling incessantly about everything.  She even giggles in her sleep and I definitely think she… Read more »

After I finished my Stripe Study Shawl (still waiting on the sidelines to be blocked, ends woven in, photographed), I was hankering for a smaller project.  I’ve been hoarding this skein of sock yarn from Sweet Fiber Yarns and it was time to just knit something with it already! This spring-worthy colorway called Grapefruit had to become socks with a lace pattern.  I picked Cadence Socks, a free pattern from VeryBusyMonkey (Ravelry link).  Turned out to be the perfect pairing of colorway + pattern…. Impulse yarn purchases – knitters always make them!  I’m not much of a sock knitter, but I can’t help resisting a skein of sock yarn every now and then.  Especially when it is jewel-toned and gorgeous like this one. I felt like it would be perfect for a scarf and thought I’d do a quick pattern rummage into the treasure trove that is Ravelry!  Hitchhiker was the pattern that showed up number 1 on my list.  But I wanted to keep looking for “that… Read more »

I didn’t realize shawl knitting could be so much fun!  You take stripes, garter stitch and short rows and you have yourself a winning combination!  The Color Affection shawl was the perfect relaxing summer project and I was almost sad when I bound off the last stitch.  Not for too long though, as I was plotting my next stripey project 🙂 For this shawl, I used Tosh Merino Light.  The yellow is leftover from the Vitamin D cardigan I finished last summer and I paired… Read more »

A few days ago I posted this on instagram Our berry bonanza from a local blueberry farm.  These are ahh-MAZ-ing!  Blueberries are a regular feature in our kitchen throughout the year since they freeze perfectly.  Blueberry pancakes, muffins, pies, smoothies, even in salads :: blueberries and crumbled goat cheese over arugula, my fave! I thought I should try making blueberry scones.  Actually, I’m not a big fan of scones because I don’t like the after taste of baking soda.  Then, I found this scone recipe which… Read more »

Today, we celebrate this amazing, beautiful country of ours. Happy Birthday Canada! Red and white was the flavor of the day.  These cheesecake brownies didn’t turn out as pretty as I imagined they would be. However, they get full marks for yumminess! Of course, it’s also strawberry season (and cherry and blueberry, oh my, I’m in heaven!!) so I made our favorite summer drink. In a cocktail shaker, crush sliced strawberries, a couple leaves of fresh mint and a half teaspoon of sugar… Read more »

My mom has this really lovely friend, Jane.  She is always so well put together.  Imagine a taller, Audrey Hepburn, that’s Jane.  Although, she’s lived in Canada most of her adult life, she is still very British.  That accent… love it!!!  Her sense of humor is charmingly tongue-in-cheek too.  An exceptional woman! Jane is a knitter.  I found this out when she saw my son’s modified Rikke hat that I knit him a while ago and she could just “read… Read more »

We had an awesome time on our trip and we’re back home now.  I packed a knitting project with me, nothing big just a hat, thinking that I’ll have time to finish it.  Um… didn’t quite get around to pulling my knitting out of my suitcase!  However, between the loads of laundry that I had to tackle yesterday, I managed to cast on for my Renfrew hat and I’m pleased to say that I’m close to the crown decreases.  Yeah!!… Read more »

I have one more finished object to share with you before we say goodbye to 2012.  I knit a pair of fingerless mitts from Jane Richmond’s new book Island. This pattern is named Rathtrevor after the breathtaking Rathtrevor Provincial Park on Vancouver Island.  As I knit this project I was reminded of our family trip to Van Isle lastyear and I was so grateful that I was able to capture this tender moment between my kids on Rathtrevor Beach… Knit… Read more »
