I didn’t realize shawl knitting could be so much fun!  You take stripes, garter stitch and short rows and you have yourself a winning combination!  The Color Affection shawl was the perfect relaxing summer project and I was almost sad when I bound off the last stitch.  Not for too long though, as I was plotting my next stripey project 🙂 For this shawl, I used Tosh Merino Light.  The yellow is leftover from the Vitamin D cardigan I finished last summer and I paired… Read more »

I showed you this picture last time… Now these are the remnants. Which can mean only one thing :: I finished my Color Affection Shawl, yaa-hoo! I definitely learned a few things about combining colors with this project. See how vibrant that yellow-gold yarn looked in the yarn cake?  In the finished shawl, the blue makes the yellow appear quite muted.  You can’t tell with these pictures because they are closeups and your eyes are drawn to the yellow.  But from a distance, meh! All that science behind… Read more »

I cannot believe I haven’t shared details of this finished sweater yet!  I guess since it’s been put away with the rest of our winter stuff, it was out-of-sight out-of-mind. This pattern is Twigs and Willows from Alana Dakos’ book Botanical Knits.  I really enjoyed knitting the yoke on this sweater with the cabled leaves and vine motif.  The pattern for the yoke is written as well as charted.  For this garment, I used Cascade 220 in a heathered green…. I’ve got a finished sweater for show-and-tell today!  This sweater turned out pretty cute and I think that the wearer is uber cute!  Of course, I’m the biased mama 😉 With this sweater, I knit a few rows here and there until I was on the last sleeve and I could taste finishing victory!  It took about 6 months to complete and another few weeks to find the ribbon for the front closure.  I got it all done in time for Mother’s… Read more »

We’ve just had the hottest day of the year (so far) pass us by.  However, today is murky and wet… April showers bring spring flowers and all that jazz, so I’m okay!  That hot day just screamed road trip so we decided that it would be the best day to make the short drive south into Washington state and visit the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival.  Only thing is that every Pacific Northwesterner had the same idea as us, hah!  We… Read more »

Thank you so much to everyone who emailed me and commented about my new site!  I really appreciate your encouragement ❤ I talked about knitting a lace shawl with beads a little while ago.  This shawl had a deadline since I wanted to wear it to my cousin’s wedding in December.  I wanted something pretty and warm at the same time to wear so that I wouldn’t become a frozen ice cube in the winter chill. Everything went well even though… Read more »

I’m sure I’ll be knitting my latest project till the last minute, maybe even blocking on the road and this is why… One of my cousins is getting married in 2 weeks.  She’s pretty local, lives on Vancouver Island actually.  I’ve picked out a dress to wear but for obvious reasons unless I grow some kind of thermal skin, I’m going to become an icicle. So, what do you wear with a dress that’s got no arms, or shoulders that’s… Read more »

My mom has this really lovely friend, Jane.  She is always so well put together.  Imagine a taller, Audrey Hepburn, that’s Jane.  Although, she’s lived in Canada most of her adult life, she is still very British.  That accent… love it!!!  Her sense of humor is charmingly tongue-in-cheek too.  An exceptional woman! Jane is a knitter.  I found this out when she saw my son’s modified Rikke hat that I knit him a while ago and she could just “read… Read more »

When I initially began knitting sweaters, the concept of seamless, top-down knitting, in the round was pretty unconventional.  Even for baby sweaters.  Patterns instructed you to knit the sweater in pieces and then seam the parts together.  There was little opportunity to try-as-you-go and you hoped that after all was said and done, the thing would fit ok.  I loved the knitting, it was the finishing that gave me the blahs.  Seaming all those pieces together and then getting the… Read more »

Today is the first of school for the kids and I’m ready to embrace routine and schedules and even some “me time” 😉  This summer has been a mixed bag of sorts with many wonderful moments celebrating family and togetherness and on the other end of the spectrum holding the hand of a dear one who is hurting more than words can begin to describe.  And so, life goes on and these sunny days with cool breezes will be replaced… Read more »
