When a maker is asked by a family member for a specific handmade item, they put everything down and fulfill that desire, stat! My son requested me to knit him a black beanie. He showed me a picture of a fisherman’s rib beanie that he had found online. He also had some “specific” requests – it couldn’t be slouchy, it needed to be quite short so that it didn’t completely cover his ears, he wanted a wide-ish brim so he… Read more »

Fluorite
The Fluorite socks are my February’s instalment for The Rainbow Sock Chronicles 2021. This sock pattern is by Andrea Mowry and uses a simple fade sequence that is great for using up leftover sock yarn. February’s colour for this challenge is Dark Pink or Red. I choose to incorporate a few dark pinks in my socks in keeping with the theme. The pattern is written for two lengths – calf length or boot socks and I opted for the regular… Read more »
March Makers
Whoa calendar, slow down already! Every March Joanne Hawker puts out a #MarchMeetTheMaker challenge. The inspiration, camaraderie and community spirit with so many creatives sharing is mind boggling. Check out all the eye candy and the makers behind the creative offerings. In the spirt of March Making, I’m working on a few creative challenges myself. A while ago, I bought this wonderful, bright skein of hand dyed yarn. It was the perfect choice to make these fingerless mitts for my… Read more »
Sticky Diamonds
It’s nice to ease into some sort of regular programming these days. What better way that to showcase a work in progress for WIP Wednesday. We’ve had a few scary trips to the ER with the little one being ill this September. It’s always harder when your kids are sick. First day of Grade 4 stuck in the ER :: NOT cool, superbug😡😡😡 Thankfully, she’s feeling better! . . #firstdayofschool #backtoschool #bcchildrenshospital #flusucks #rockinthebluegown A photo posted by Preeti Verghese… Read more »
Something New
While I’ve been sort of AWOL with family visiting and volunteering responsibilities and the crazy schedules of spring term, I haven’t stopped adding to stash! This lovely geometric bundle hopped into my shopping bag and now it’s slated to become something new. The prints are bold, modern and I adore the clean lines. Totally up my alley! These are from Joel Dewberry’s line Wander for Free Spirit. I love the golds and the blues paired with the cool greys. This line… Read more »
Round Two
Revisiting a craft project over and over means that the aspects of design and creation of that project really appealed to the crafter. Of course, fellow creative types will know how strong the draw is to start something new. Fondly called Startitis 😉 With the power of social media, new patterns and craft materials are being showcased every day. The magnetic force towards “ooh shiny” is sometimes irresistible (who am I kidding, this happens far too often!) But what about those projects that you had so much… Read more »
Glue Basting Hexies – A Tutorial
After what has been an epic summer, today is the first day back to school for my kids! Yes, HUGE grin 😀 A few weeks ago, Amanda from The Cozy Pumpkin asked me to share a Tuesday Tip on her blog. To say that I was thrilled to bits is an understatement!! So today, to celebrate Back To School, I have a tutorial for you 🙂 Head on over to Amanda’s blog to read more about it. English Paper Pieceing (EPP) is so much… Read more »
Hexagoning
My jar of hexagons overfloweth! Instead, this has become my current “hexie station”. I discovered a new way (new to me) to make hexagons… glue basting! So quick and easy and effective. I bought the pre-cut paper 1″ hexagons from Paper Pieces LLC and I’ve been putting them to good use with my fabric scraps. I use the Sewline glue pen for basting. Easy, no mess and the glue is blue, so I can see where (and how much) I’m… Read more »
Home Is Where The Heart Is
The house I grew up in was in Bangalore, India. One of those old homes that were built during the British Raj with countless quirks and interesting bits. As a child, I didn’t really stop to think about any of the curious details of that old house. I took all the antiquities and weird nooks and crannies for granted and loved it all. The hand-painted tiles in our living room, the trellis on the front porch, the mismatched floors, the little courtyard out back, the secret alcove,… Read more »
Something New
Hello, hello! Today is the last school day before spring break begins… two weeks of fun, goofiness, day trips and snacks, always with the snacks!! I thought I had better begin something new to celebrate the early onset of spring and sunshine that has bathed our lovely neck of the woods. Did you spot that cute little bee 🙂 Last summer during our trip to the Oregon Coast, I went to this adorable fabric store called Jane’s Fabric Patch. Actually, it’s… Read more »
