Fall has been different this year with the leaves taking their sweet time to show us their autumnal gloriousness. We haven’t had to do any raking in the backyard yet and it’s the end of October! Being able to slowly savor the changing colors has been wonderful. I have a finished fall project too!  I saw these Modern Maples popping up all over on Instagram and Flickr.  Not wanting to tackle yet another huge project at this time, I settled for a scaled-down version…. I have been following Chase’s blog, quater inch mark, for quite a while.  She does the most intricate piecing and hand quilting.  Her posts about everyday life :: crafting or otherwise, are always so sweet.  Chase hosted a QAL (quilt along) via the Pack Patch Flickr Group and I signed up to be a part of it.  This QAL was so much fun and very interesting! The blocks were a simple twelve patch, but there was a twist.  Every Friday, she would give us… Read more »

Zippered pouches are the best.  I use a whole bunch whether it is to keep my knitting and sewing notions tidy, or to store my button collection, or even to keep my makeup organized. I’ve got a little one that I throw into my purse to hold items that usually get lost in the abyss. You know the “runaway” stuff that you have to fish out of the bottom of your purse, lip balm, mailbox keys, hand sanitizer, that sort of thing! I was… Read more »

I’m sure all of us remembers the story of The Princess and the Pea from when we were growing up.  I have to confess that I sulk when it comes to sleeping on a lumpy mattress, hotel mattresses that are too soft can feel lumpy sometimes! Vineet always laughs and says that I’m being such a diva, I just chalk it up to old age 😉 On our recent mama-son expedition to Granville Island, I came across a lovely little fabric store called The… Read more »

When a collection of things are strung together and hung up, it always creates a festive mood.  After bunny one and bunny two, I decided that we needed some more festivity and this time I was going for quick. So, I sewed some buntings!  Bunting… such a funny word 🙂 For this bunting (hehe!), I used scrap bits of patterned fabric for the fronts and backed them with a large red and white dot. Sewn onto a length of ribbon and… Read more »

I’ve heard it said that when you don’t know what to blog about, blog anyway.  So, here I am blogging anyway 🙂 I’m so thrilled with this kitchen adventure.  I found a recipe in an old magazine for lemon curd cheesecake.  Just reading the recipe made me drool and so I just had to make it.  I went on the hunt for lemon curd and didn’t find any at the store.  I did find Ina Garten’s recipe for homemade lemon… Read more »

I should be getting my hat done.  Actually, I should be finishing our taxes (ugh!) instead, here I am knitting something absolutely frivolous and so much fun! Every year once we get our taxes filed just before D-Day, I vow that I will be better at being organized with next year’s paperwork.  And every year I fail miserably!  So as a picker-upper, I pulled out Julie’s bunny pattern and some stash yarn and got knitting.  Grin 😀 I think Dottie… Read more »

I received a custom request for a set of gift bags for Valentines Day.  These little bags were so much fun to put together.  Filled with little candy and treats for the fast-approaching ❤ Day, I’m sure these are going to be loved :: for the giving and the receiving. They can be re-used to store little treasures or filled with lavender to freshen up any space. I made the bags using linen (of course!) and pretty fabric for the trim…. Read more »

Outside our kitchen window is a star magnolia tree and it provides us with plenty to look at year round.  Delicate scented white flowers in the early spring, lush green foliage all summer and when the leaves turn in the fall, they are a beautiful orangey yellow. The leaves continue to fall and soon the branches will be bare.  These bare branches give us hours of winter entertainment watching our own backyard bird channel.  Right now, the ground is a carpet of… Read more »

My son, Prithvi, is a delightful, talented soul.  He is the quiet one in our family and has always been drawn to creating things with his hands.  I’ve saved pages and pages of his kiddie art which first began during his superhero fixation days… Batman, Superman, not forgetting good old Spidey!  His art has definitely matured over the years and I think he does some real good work now (even though I’m a biased Mama :)) A while ago, he… Read more »
