Vancouver’s annual fiber festival, Knit City, took place this past weekend.  It was bigger and better this year. Thank you Amanda & Fiona!  Two days filled with yarny fun and this time we even had the pleasure of listening to a lecture by the Yarn Harlot herself. Unfortunately, I didn’t have my camera with me and so all I have is this blurry instagramed picture of her standing behind the podium. And yes, she is that pint-sized IRL! It was… Read more »

My son, Prithvi, is a delightful, talented soul.  He is the quiet one in our family and has always been drawn to creating things with his hands.  I’ve saved pages and pages of his kiddie art which first began during his superhero fixation days… Batman, Superman, not forgetting good old Spidey!  His art has definitely matured over the years and I think he does some real good work now (even though I’m a biased Mama :)) A while ago, he… Read more »

So, I’ve never canned anything before.  That is, before yesterday! By the way, we did have a great day at the pumpkin patch and I’ll share pictures of that soon.  However, we also went apple picking :: which was a first for us and good fun too. Jonagold apples are in season and although, they’re no Honeycrisp (my favorite!), they are deliciously juicy especially straight off the tree! Off we went to the Taves Family Farm in the valley to… Read more »

Today is the first of school for the kids and I’m ready to embrace routine and schedules and even some “me time” 😉  This summer has been a mixed bag of sorts with many wonderful moments celebrating family and togetherness and on the other end of the spectrum holding the hand of a dear one who is hurting more than words can begin to describe.  And so, life goes on and these sunny days with cool breezes will be replaced… Read more »

Start date on my Vitamin D cardigan was October of last year!!!  Finally, this project is off the needles… huge sigh of relief! I’m sort of on the fence about this one 🙁  I don’t know if I would feel differently if I had lengthened the body so that the “drapey bits” in front draped better.  That said, a whole sweater in this yarn, Tosh Merino Light, is absolutely amazing.  It is light and squishy and the color, even after a good soak,… Read more »

Hello lovely people and happy first day of summer!!! I’m here to do a bit of housekeeping talk about this ol’ blog.  Some of the pictures I post on my blog are squished and spilling over into my sidebar and I’m sure you’ve read a post from me and gone, “Ack!” at my picture-posting messiness and for very good reason.  My sincere apologies about disrupting your reading pleasure. By way of explanation, I edit my pictures and write my blog… Read more »

A few weeks ago, I received a swap package in the mail from Melissa of Knits With Camels hi Mel 🙂  This was no ordinary package, it was filled, no, stuffed to the brim with goodies.  Some fabulous skeins of yarn one of which is slowly being turned into a Frambuesa shawlette.  Not your average TV knitting, so it’s slow going. She also sent me these gorgeous coordinating fat quarters.  The fabric is from Riley Blake and I think the line… Read more »

I’ve been working on what I thought was more than a few rows on my Vitamin D cardigan every night.  My routine at night is to knit while I go through my PVR list before bed (because who really has the time any more to watch shows at the actual time they’re aired and to suffer through all those commercial breaks?) Anyhow, this is prime knitting time for me and I should have been done with my cardigan with all… Read more »

This is such a proud mama moment… This doll bed was made entirely by my 14-year-old son, Prithvi.  He’s been taking woodshop at school as one of his electives and absolutely loves it.  So, for his birthday this year we got him a couple power tools.  The first thing he built was a saw horse :: gotta have a work surface for all those woodworking projects right?  Next up was this… Kiki has been asking for a doll’s bed for… Read more »

All of the school districts in the Vancouver area have a “West Coast Recess” policy which means the kids go outside during recess and lunch to play outside despite the rain.  If you’ve lived in Vancouver or the Pacific Northwest for any length of time you’ll know that what we call rain is a heavy drizzle for everyone else.  So, no torrential downpour, thunder, lightning or any of those cool things associated with rain. Today, however, things are different. It… Read more »
