I’ve always had a head full of thick, curly, crazy, unmanageable hair.  Some may say lovely, but I say *&??&%*??$#%

A couple years ago, I sat in a salon chair for over 5 hours to have it straightened and I had 3 stylists (I kid you not) painstakingly working what smelled like a combination of bleach and chlorine and rotten apples into my hair to make it all glossy and straight.  I walked out of the salon that day a great deal poorer but still feeling like a million bucks because I could actually swish my hair and not have it give me whiplash.

That lasted a whole 2 weeks and then of course, the roots grew in, wiry, curly, unmanageable.  Ack!!!

Now that my roots have all grown out and I’m back to the way things were unruly and wild, I’m finally cool with it…I think…maybe.  But the downside to having all this hair is that I can’t wear hats, even the lovely handknit kind that I love knitting.  Baseball caps during a bad hair day – big no, no!

Enter the beret for us curly-wurlies, yay!!  I bought some Malabrigo Silky Merino yarn for exactly this purpose and in the perfect colorway that reminded me of wintry skies.  My first attempt at knitting this type headgear, turned out to be this…

Cloudy Skies Beret

Pattern: Spring Beret by Natalie Larson
Yarn: Malabrigo Silky Merino in colorway “Cloudy Sky”
Needles: Size US 10/6 mm
Started 9/21 – Finished 9/25

as always, more pictures on my Ravelry Projects Page

Onto the Sock crazies, fun, fun, fun!!

It is so gorgeous! Makes me want to knit it right now. I printed out the pattern but cast it aside since I am not sure which yarn to use. And more importantly Socktoberfest is coming!

I just signed up for 2 pairs of socks for the STR KaL. Yes I am officially nuts.

I agree with the prregnant Aussie (LOL!), that blue colourway is so pretty on your dark hair.

I so love the beret you made, esp the colorway! I have always had wavy hair and just like you had gotten it straightened but then it went right back to being wavy – guess hair does have a mind of its own!! Anyways, I think hats and berets camouflage a bad hair day very well and when you want to look chic and cover up your hair, berets work well. Now that I have cut my hair into a pixie style and it is growing out, it is in the mid-phase, where you can’t really do anything except let it grow out!! Frustrating but this phase will pass 🙂

Ahhhhh but you’ve such gorgeous hair, REALLY!!

The beret is lovely and I’m sure you’ll get tons of wear out of it there in Canada.

i am going in for the same treatment in a week or two…even if it only lasts a few weeks, i have to try it. my friend is hairdresser and when i asked her if she could get it really straight, she told me she could. we will see.

the hat is lovely as are all the projects. 🙂 catching up on blog posts right now, i have been missing a lot.

This is gorgeous! Here’s a question: does it stay on? I have wavy hair (not nearly as curly as yours), and although I love the look of berets, I find they always slip off my head unless I bobbypin them on. I would think curly hair would make it so much worse!
